About eight weeks ago Smokie cut his leg quite badly. Typical Smokie, he is an accident waiting to happen. The cut was very deep. I had to cut the flap of skin and flesh away and then bandage it up.
Horses don't heal like humans when we develop a scab over a wound we leave it there so that the healing can take place under the scab. Horses have to have the scab removed as they develop what is called proud flesh. A deep wound like Smokies had to be hosed every day and the scab removed, we then applied Proud Aid. Proud Aid helps counter the growth of proud flesh. His leg is still very swollen. however. he hasn't lost any mobility and has been working quite hard over the last two weeks.
